Uncanny adaptations: revisionary narratives in Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal / Melissa Raines
Article - English -
Examines the uncanny in the television adaptation of Thomas Harris’s Hannibal Lector novels ‘Hannibal’ (2013-15), and the film adaptations. Audience familiarity with the character allows showrunner Bryan Singer to play with representations of Lector as psychopath in a prequel setting. The article argues that this pre-established familiarity allows for the series to challenge the audience, including their conceptions of empathy. In: Literature/Film Quarterly v35 n1 2007, pp. 389-395
